The First Morel Mushroom

After 32 years of searching for morel mushrooms on Eighty Acres I finally found one! Near it I sat and marveled at the morel's honeycombed patterns. What secrets does it hold in it's intricate maze of tunnels, curves and deep shadows? How fearless it must have been to push its way into a unknown world through the forest floors's dried oak leaves, grasses and twigs. In the soft morning light I captured this photo. I then stood, continued my journey, realizing that even after all these years on Eighty Acres, if I walk slowly, the Earth Mother still has stories to tell and secrets to share.
