As I turned the calendar page to October, I knew this month will bring the first fall frost and the dahlia's season will end. As usual, those first cold nights, I will cover the dahlias with sheets and tarps in hopes of saving them for just one more day. To be able to pick one more bouquet. But as the October nights increasing grow colder, I will grow weary and realize my hard work is futile and simply in vain. Therefore each day in October, I will be mindful of the dahlia's remaining days, to celebrate their remarkable beauty, and thank the Earth Mother for her magnificent gifts and memories she has given me this past summer.
